OpenAI dots, Meta Muse, Hermes or OpenClaw: Which Fits?
Compare availability in Poland and the EU, application access, private hosting, approval controls and the cost of operating a personal AI agent.
Syntalith
Two questions help narrow the choice of personal agent: where should it work, and who will operate it? OpenAI dots and Meta Muse are managed services. Hermes Agent and OpenClaw can run on infrastructure you control and connect to tools selected for your work.
Each route might produce a similar deliverable, such as a quote comparison or a draft proposal. Availability, configuration options and ongoing work differ. This comparison uses documentation checked on 1 October 2026. It is not a performance ranking from a four-product benchmark.
Availability and hosting
| Product | Access in Poland | Who operates the environment? | Self-hosting |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAI dots | Pro excluded; Business Premium in supported regions; Enterprise beta enabled by an admin | OpenAI; the company manages its access | No documented self-hosted edition; local computer access is optional |
| Meta Muse | Not yet available in Poland or the EU; Meta names the US and Canada | Meta; the user manages connections and approvals | No documented self-hosted edition |
| Hermes Agent | The project can be installed; model and tool availability must be checked separately | Your team or an implementation provider | Yes |
| OpenClaw | The project can be installed; model and tool availability must be checked separately | Your team or an implementation provider | Yes |

What acting on your behalf means
The model proposes a step and a tool executes an operation. Reading a document, creating an email draft and sending it are distinct permissions. Browser control allows interaction with a page; it does not guarantee service access, transaction approval or correct interpretation of a form.
| Area | Dots and Muse | Hermes and OpenClaw |
|---|---|---|
| Applications | Supplier-supported connections within account permissions | Tools, plugins, MCP or custom integrations, with compatibility to verify |
| Browser | Supplier-operated environment | Local or external options, depending on configuration |
| Background work | Service features and limits | Scheduling plus an environment you keep running |
| Memory | Product retention and deletion controls | Chosen memory configuration, access and retention |
| Operations | Supplier maintains the service; the company defines its use | Your operator also maintains the server, dependencies and integrations |
Compare a specific operation, such as reading three quotes and preparing a table. Counting application logos is less useful. A CRM connector might read contacts without supporting the sales-stage change you need. A scoped trial reveals that gap.
Hermes and OpenClaw have overlapping capabilities
Hermes Agent from Nous Research emphasises persistent memory and skills developed through work. These skills are reusable instructions. This is different from automatically retraining model weights, and it does not establish that later runs are more accurate. A mistaken procedure can be retained too.
OpenClaw connects channels, sessions and tools through its Gateway, including browser and automation capabilities. Hermes also has messaging, schedules and browser tools. Treating one as a research-only system and the other as a chat-only assistant would give a misleading picture.
The deciding factors are the integrations, operator experience, performance with the chosen model and enforceable access controls. See our Hermes guide and OpenClaw business deployment guide for project-specific detail.
What a private deployment actually covers
A VPS determines where the agent application and its disk state run. Then trace the rest of the data path:
Company document → agent → selected model
→ browser or application API
→ memory, logs and backups
If the agent sends a document excerpt to an external model, that excerpt leaves the server. A local model removes that particular dependency, but search, messaging and backup services may still receive information. Local inference also needs appropriate hardware and a quality evaluation on your tasks.
A deployment designed for privacy can combine a private server, local model, local browser and outbound network restrictions. Verify the scope through configuration and observed connections. Installing Hermes or OpenClaw alone does not establish confidentiality or GDPR compliance.
Check permissions beyond the prompt
The Hermes security guide and OpenClaw security documentation describe user controls, tool policies and isolation. Those controls need to fit the process. An instruction not to send messages is useful, but a read-only task should also lack technical sending permission where possible.
Start with a separate account, a limited source folder and an isolated workspace. Include a document containing an instruction that conflicts with the task, such as an attempt to disclose another file. Also test expired access and interruption before a write. The result should show whether the agent stopped at the right boundary.
Comparing costs
The first dot is included in an eligible plan, subject to usage limits. Meta describes a free Muse allowance and paid subscriptions, but the cited announcement is not a Polish price offer. A self-hosted agent has infrastructure, model, tool and operating costs.
Monthly cost = hosting + model usage + external tools
+ maintenance + human review time
For arithmetic only, assume 300 tasks at €0.05 of model usage each: €15. If review takes two minutes per task, that also requires ten hours of human work. The illustrative €0.05 unit cost needs to be replaced with measured usage, including retries and failed tasks, during the pilot.
Where we would start
If you already have dots access and its integrations cover the task, try a limited assignment there. Watch Muse's European rollout if Meta's business applications are central to your work. Consider Hermes or OpenClaw when private infrastructure, model choice or a custom integration matters.
A fixed automation may also be appropriate when the steps are known in advance. Updating a spreadsheet does not always require an agent deciding each step at runtime.
Syntalith deploys Hermes and OpenClaw on client-controlled infrastructure with agreed data access, tools and approval rules. A personal AI operator starts at €600 excluding VAT. Integrations, privacy requirements and maintenance are scoped before the final quote. Book a free scan with one task and a clear example of its intended output.

How to introduce ChatGPT and OpenAI at workFree process scan
Start with a free process scan.
- A 30-minute call with the engineer who would lead the work.
- A review of the processes that cost you the most time and money.
- A written summary: a possible direction, missing information and the next step.
The scan chooses one process to assess, and within 2 business days you receive a recommendation, including when a simpler route is the better fit.
