Logistics automation: WMS rules, AI or a robot?
Short answer
In contract logistics, first find where the goods or the information wait. A robot shortens physical movement, WMS rules give a predictable status, and AI sorts free-form messages from clients and carriers. Each problem has a different technology and a different supplier. At Syntalith the automation costs from €3,000 net, and with 1,500 messages to clarify a month at 6 minutes each it pays back in 0.8 months.

Logistics automation: find the place where things wait
A pallet stands in the receiving area, and a worker waits for the delivery number to be clarified, because the client's advance notice gives a different number from the carrier's document. A faster forklift or a robot will not remove that: the problem lies in the information. In another task all the data is correct, and the operator keeps covering the same route with a load. Then the analysis concerns how movement is organised and the warehouse equipment, and AI will not help.
| Problem | What to check first |
|---|---|
| No predictable status | WMS configuration and event rules |
| A worker retypes data from a file | an import or an integration by identifier |
| Information sits in free-form messages | AI reading and a proposed match |
| Goods wait to be moved physically | work organisation and warehouse equipment |
- Two similar delivery numbers in different client contracts
- A late message describing an earlier state
- The same file sent again
- The time of the event kept apart from the time the message arrived
GS1 describes EPCIS as a standard for sharing information about objects, time, place and the course of events in the supply chain. It is a good reference point when designing events, even when clients send them by email.
What AI for warehouse messages costs and when it pays back
- Today
- 1,500 messages to clarify × 6 min = 150 h (€5,235)
- With the system, a person checks the output in 30% of the time
- €1,571
- Model, 1 call per case, Claude Sonnet 5.5
- €12
- Cost of one case
- €3.49 today, €1.06 with the system
- Saving
- €3,652 a month
Payback of €3,000

The volume, the time and the checking share are the scenario's assumptions. €34.90 an hour is the EU average hourly labour cost for 2025 according to Eurostat. Model: 3,000 input tokens and 300 output tokens per call at Anthropic's rates, converted at the ECB rate of 1.1205 USD per euro on 22 October 2026.
The count covers the work around each case: searching, reading, writing and handing over. What remains is the time to check the result, 30% of today's work in the scenario. Before the quote we measure both times on 20 to 100 cases the team has already handled, in a free test that takes 5 working days.
When a project combines several layers
Some projects combine the movement of goods, the WMS and work with messages. Then the proposal states where each supplier's responsibility ends: the automation integrator, the WMS vendor and the automation firm. Confirming that a message was read does not change stock in the WMS without a rule there. With a modest volume of messages, a better advance notice form for clients is enough.

Where to start
The first scope covers the messages of one contract client and compares the matches with the team's decisions from the last month. We build this kind of system as part of our AI automations. For the free process review, a description of one case from the last few weeks and the tools it went through is enough. You do not need to send confidential documents, and you receive a written plan within 2 working days.

How we count the payback: AI in warehousing
We run the same count for your warehouse in the free process review.
€3,490
a month for retyping 1,200 orders and delivery notices by hand
Payback: 1 mo.
5 minutes to retype an order or a delivery notice and checking in 15% of the old time are our assumptions. €34.90 an hour is the EU average hourly labour cost for 2025 according to Eurostat, for companies with 10 or more employees. Model cost: reading the order in our system (about €0.0006) plus matching the lines (Claude Sonnet 5.5, about 3,000 + 500 tokens), at the ECB rate of 1.1205 USD per euro on 22 October 2026.
