ChatGPT Plus, Business or Enterprise: choosing a company plan

ChatGPT Plus is an individual plan. Business provides a company workspace with user administration and shared billing. Enterprise extends administrative capabilities and deployment terms. For a company, access management, employee departures and data requirements all affect the decision.

A more expensive plan should address a specific requirement. Headcount alone does not determine which one fits.

What happened to ChatGPT Team?

ChatGPT Team was renamed ChatGPT Business. Older guides, invoices and internal instructions may still use Team. Compare the current Business offering and seat types when purchasing: the former name does not guarantee unchanged prices or allowances. The Business FAQ explains the name change and current terms.

Prices and purchasing

USD prices checked on 30 September 2026 against the Plus description and OpenAI business pricing. Taxes, currency and purchasing terms may affect the invoice.

Standard and Premium include ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex. Seats can be mixed under the plan's rules. A higher allowance still requires oversight of any additional usage spending. API billing is separate.

What a company workspace changes

With individual purchases, the company must establish who controls accounts, material and access. Reimbursing a Plus subscription does not create company administration. Turning off training on an individual account also does not add user management.

Business gives workspace owners tools for handling members and seats. OpenAI states that business data is not used for training by default; see the enterprise privacy information for scope. Check retention and connection rules for the features you intend to use.

Before launch, rehearse adding an employee, changing a role and removing access. Review paid seat counts separately. Removing a member may not automatically reduce the seats billed, as explained in the Business FAQ.

When to investigate Enterprise

Start with requirements you can verify at acceptance. If IT requires SCIM for automatic account provisioning and removal, Business does not supply it. If you need more detailed roles, encryption key management or specific retention rules, check Enterprise capabilities and contract terms.

SSO, MFA and automated account provisioning address different problems. Availability of user MFA does not establish workspace-wide enforcement. The requirement may need SSO and identity provider configuration. The administration documentation covers these distinctions.

For regional requirements, check storage, processing and feature availability separately. A plan name cannot establish every data path.

Example team budgets

For comparison, 10 individual Plus subscriptions at $20 cost $200 per month. The difference from monthly Business Standard billing is $50. Administration, data terms and required features also belong in that decision. Annual Business Standard billing has the same $20 monthly equivalent, with a different payment commitment.

Make the choice against actual requirements

Someone testing AI with permitted material may start with an individual plan under company policy. For shared team use, assess Business. Compare Enterprise when an administrative requirement, scale or contractual need justifies it.

Prepare the user count, access requirements, data sources and a typical working day before purchasing. Test allowances during a pilot. If results must flow automatically into another system, you may also need the OpenAI API.
